Under Investigation: The Use of DNA in Forensics
Edmonton, Alberta, October 7, 2004

"We're going to take you on a journey from the crime scene to the courtroom and beyond, as we look at the promise, and perhaps the peril, of forensic evidence."

- Terry Reith, Moderator, Forensics Public Forum

"How many of you watch CSI?" Moderator Terry Reith kicked off the Under Investigation: The Use of DNA in Forensics Public Forum at the Provincial Museum of Alberta with this question. Almost all of the 40-or-so people in the audience raised their hands. That's not surprising because CSI is one of the most popular dramas on TV.

However, the people who attended the October 7, 2004 forensics public forum were eager to go beyond television's fictional depiction and take a look at real police work and genetic analysis. They weren't disappointed.

Panellists Bill Baynes, Brad Odsen, Laura Stevens and Randy Topp explored some of the key issues surrounding the gathering, use and storage of DNA for forensic purposes.
