Art & Writing Activity

What Is the Genomics Art & Writing Activity?

Geared for high school art and language classes, this activity helps bridge the gap between science and art, providing students with alternative means of expressing their knowledge of genomics through drawings, paintings, sculptures, essays or poems.

Careers in Genomics

1) Collage.What is Genomics?

Genomics is the study of genes and their functions. This broadly based discipline aims to decipher and understand all of the genetic information content of organisms.

The Teacher's Guide will help you organize a class activity on this theme and incorporate it into your curriculum (for grades nine to 12).

Samples

For the opening of the new travelling national exhibition, The Geee! in Genome, at the Canadian Museum of Nature on April 25, 2003, students were invited to participate by creating and submitting samples of art or writing on the theme of genomics. Some of the visual art was displayed in the Museum during the summer, until the exhibition closed on September 1, 2003.

Have a look at some of the works that were created for this exhibition.
