Speaker: Dr. Chris Metcalfe
Chris Metcalfe, Ph.D., studies water quality in our environment. He begins his talk by presenting our social paradigm of blaming industry. Personal and pharmaceutical products are frequently being flushed down the drain, and this has consequences for our drinking water. He identifies synthetic musks and other pollutants that end up in our water sources, and discusses the challenges in treating contaminated water.
Dr. Metcalfe says we should be supportive of best practices and new regulations. We need to be conscious of what we put into our water system and take advantage of disposal programmes that include the collection of unused pharmaceutical drugs. Collectively, we need to take the responsibility and embrace efforts to ensure our water quality.
