Speaker: Dr. Michel Poulin, Research Scientist, Canadian Museum of Nature
Michel Poulin, Ph.D., takes us on a voyage to explore life in the Arctic Ocean. He talks about the challenges of working in such an extreme environment and describes his research on sea and ice algae and the factors that affect their productivity.
Poulin also discusses some of the main environmental issues already affecting the Arctic, such as reduction of sea-ice thickness and expanse, early snow melt and ice break-up, increase of atmospheric temperature and freshwater input, and modification to the ocean circulation on a global scale.
This lecture was part of Voices: A Canadian Perspective on Water, the RBC National Lecture Series.
